Reality

"... of the major disadvantages of reality: from up close, it looks very different from any "picture", a difference which no theory can explain".
-Bertrand Russel from Logicomix

I realize why I have this great tendency to live in my imagination sometimes.

Good stories for good kids

Only by looking at one of the photos of the books titled "Good stories for good kids" I could feel one summer day that I had lay down on the carpet of our guest room at my parents' place reading one of the books.
I was happy that I had a book with pink cover beside the very colorful covers of the collection. I liked that they came with different colors, maybe one of the reasons was the colors could a little bit compensate for black and white pages of the books then.
Today, I could see a little girl who believed that kids and stories both were good, remembered that little girl once again, she's all grown up now...deep inside she secretly wishes to be a good little kid.

The author passed away today.

Laughing with "Funny in Farsi"

I laughed really hard at some points during reading these two books. To me, Firoozeh Dumas-with no doubts- is a stunning story teller!
My number one favorite character in these books is her father, my "vote" this time goes for himself if you know what I mean. :D

New Cheese

...The fastest way to change is to laugh at your own folly-then you can let go and quickly move on.
- Spencer Johnson, Who moved my cheese?

Sometimes, overanalyzing matters makes them more complicated.

My list

I was invited by Hiva to mention my favourite books in here. These are the books that I can remember right now. I read them in different periods of my life. Some of them were read in my teenage years or the time that I was a student. I can still remember them vividly because of the enthusiasm that I had while I was talking to people about their content :).

  • Gone with the wind-Margaret Mitchell

  • The pleasure of Philosophy- Will Durant

  • Horoof (Persian), means "Letters"-Masoud Behnoud. I like his style of writing.

  • Prophet-Giran Khalil Gibran

  • Who moved my cheese- Spencer Johnson

  • Being Happy-Andrew Matthews

  • Emotional Intelligence-Daniel Goleman. I was really impressed with his approaches in this book.

  • The giving Tree-Shel Silverstein. This one was the first book that I recieved as a gift from Mr.Behi 8 years ago.

  • Sociology of religions (Persian)- Ali Shariati

  • Anne of Green Gables- Lucy Maud Montgomery
  • Animal Farm- George Orwell

Some are more equal

... The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which.
-Animal Farm

I think, this book is the story of those who know they want change but do not know WHAT kind of change they want. The story of those who don't like to follow but love to be followed, those who could not be unbiased, those who are the same anyway...

Help me Mr.Holmes!

Among all the books that I can't choose now as they are resting in their shelves in Tehran and a few books which we managed to bring with us here so I can choose now, I decided to start "Sherlock Holmes"- 2 volumes consist of all novels and short stories-I remember a series of these stories was shown in our national TV in Iran several years ago and the voice of Sherlock Holmes was dubbed by one of the excellent Iranian artists into Farsi at the time.

The main inspiration comes from this fact that I am not fast enough in both reading and having a good comprehension of English texts. A good prescription- as my teacher recommended, could be reading and reading and again reading. This could help me to be more familiar with various structures, be faster gradually and it could affect my writing as well. Plus for understanding the text properly I need to be focused on details and have a good command of the whole concept at the same time. So, the second practice could be helpful for the one like me who is always too much into the details. Besides, I need to increase the adventure level of my blood at the moment ;). Well, Enough with me talking, let me fly with the wings of Mr.Doyle's imagination :).
